There are several ways to
get involved with SEDOL Parents.
Sign up for the eMail Contact List
In order to facilitate
communication between SEDOL families and their Districts, the PAB maintains a contact list of parents and
interested parties. We send out a few
messages a year. You can
join that list or change your enrollment through the sedolparents.org website.
Attend Parent Mentor Project Parent Training
SEDOL parent mentors offer
training every month during the school year on a variety of topics. Visit
the SEDOL Parent Information page at www.sedol.k12.il.us , or www.sedolparents.org for a schedule of parent workshops and details.
Become a Committee Member
As our activities develop, we will be needing
volunteers to serve on committees. Examples of committees might involve
encouraging best practices through teacher and staff recognition, newsletter,
etc.
Serve as a District Representative
The newly formed District
Representative Committee (DRC) consists of approximately one member from every
district who acts to facilitate communication between districts. The PAC
meets 3-4 times a year for training, networking, and as needed for
communications and special projects. Initially, the DRC was known as the PAC
(Parent Advisory Committee).
Serve on the Parent Advisory Board (PAB)
The PAB consists of parents and SEDOL
staff. Board members should have some familiarity with special education
and leadership skills. Membership involves attending 1-2 meetings a
month, and participating in setting the direction of activities and helping
bring them to successful fruition.
